Summer 2026 - FREE Mini Lessons!

This summer, I Yarn For Ewe is hosting Mini Lessons! Each lesson runs anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. 


As of now, these are drop-in lessons and no sign-up is required. If demand is particularly high, we will provide a sign-up page.


Below, you’ll find what to bring and what you’ll learn in each class.

Lesson Topics

Long-Tail Cast-On

  • Bring: A few yards of smooth, light-colored yarn and appropriately sized needles (we recommend worsted-weight yarn and size US 8 / 5 mm). 
  • Learn: The steps for working the long-tail cast-on, then practice the technique multiple times.

German Twisted Cast-On

  • Bring: A few yards of smooth, light-colored yarn and appropriately sized needles (we recommend worsted weight yarn and US 8 / 5 mm needles).
  • Learn: The steps for working the German twisted cast-on, then practice the technique multiple times.

Knit Stitch

  • Bring: Smooth, light-colored yarn already cast on to appropriately sized needles (we recommend smooth, light-colored worsted weight yarn and US 8 / 5 mm needles, with a cast-on measuring 10–12 inches).
  • Learn: How the knit stitch is formed in Western-style knitting, then practice knitting a few rows.

Purl Stitch

  • Bring: Smooth, light-colored yarn already cast on to appropriately sized needles (we recommend worsted-weight yarn and US 8 / 5 mm needles, with a cast-on measuring 10–12 inches).
  • Learn: How the purl stitch is formed in Western-style knitting, then practice a few rows alternating knit and purl stitches.

Pass-Over Bind Off

  • Bring: A stockinette swatch still on appropriately sized needles (we recommend smooth, light-colored worsted weight yarn, and size US 8 / 5 mm needles). We also recommend bringing some scrap yarn and a set of needles at least two sizes smaller.
  • Learn: The steps for working the pass-over bind-off, and then practice it multiple times.

Zimmerman’s Sewn Bind-Off

  • Bring: A stockinette swatch still on appropriately sized needles (we recommend smooth light colored worsted weight yarn, and size US 8 / 5 mm). We also recommend bringing some scrap yarn and a set of needles at least two sizes smaller.
  • Learn: The steps for working the Zimmerman’s sewn bind-off, and then practice it multiple times.

Weave In Ends

  • Bring: A stockinette swatch, with long tails left at both the cast-on and bind-off (we recommend smooth, light-colored worsted weight yarn, and size US 8 / 5 mm) and a tapestry needle. Optionally, you may bring a few extra yards of the same yarn. 
  • Learn: Different ways to hide the ends, and then practice it multiple times.

Reading Your Knitting

  • Bring: Yourself!
  • Learn: The structure and orientation of knit stitches, how to identify them, how stitches should sit on the needle in Western-style knitting, and how to recognize twisted stitches.

Knitting Patterns

  • Bring: Feel free to bring some patterns with you. 
  • Learn: the important parts of a knitting pattern and look for sections that can be tricky.

Grafting

  • Bring: Two stockinette swatches still on the appropriately sized needles (we recommend smooth, light-colored worsted weight yarn, and size US 8 / 5 mm needles) and a tapestry needle. We also recommend bringing some scrap yarn and a set of needles at least two sizes smaller.
  • Learn: The steps of how to graft knitting together and then practice it multiple times.

Crochet Chain

  • Bring: A smooth, light-colored yarn and appropriately sized hook (we recommend worsted weight yarn, and Size J/10 / 6 mm hook). 
  • Learn: How to make a slip knot and create a chain, and then practice chaining multiple times.

Single Crochet

  • Bring: A smooth, light-colored yarn and appropriately sized hook, with a chain already started (we recommend worsted weight yarn, and size J/10 / 6 mm hook, with the chain measuring about 10-12 inches).
  • Learn: how a single crochet stitch is formed and then practice multiple rows.

The Stockinette Stitch Swatch Pattern

Cast on 30 stitches. 

Row 1: knit to end. 

Row 2: purl to end. 

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the swatch measures approximately 5 inches. 

Do not bind off, either leave on needles or place stitches on scrap yarn.
